Hitachi Sunway: Budget 2017 Wishlist – Data Centre Industry

PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA, OCTOBER 17, 2016 - Hitachi Sunway Information Systems Sdn. Bhd. (Hitachi Sunway), today shares their aspirations for Budget 2017.

Cheah Kok Hoong, Hitachi Sunway Information Systems Group CEO and Director said, “Big data and Internet of Things (IoT) is driving a massive explosion of data globally. With data comes a need for a solid supporting ecosystem that includes power supply, international telecommunication infrastructure and ease of doing business to ensure customer confidence.

While the data centre industry is making efforts to implement green technology to reduce power consumption and improve energy usage efficiency, the cost of power still remains its biggest hurdle. Energy cost is the biggest operation cost for a data centre and could be as much as 40 percent of the cost. With uncertainties in terms of the cost of power, it makes it very difficult for us to manage our business with a strategic plan in place.

We hope the government will reclassify data centres under the industrial tariff E power supply, which is the tariff currently enjoyed by the manufacturing industry. This will not only benefit the industry but be a catalyst to the growth and expansion of data rich startups and businesses.”
