There is no doubt that the world around us is changing rapidly and never more so than in 2018. We see industrial robots out-compete low-skilled manufacturing labour; cryptocurrency disturbing the financial system; artificial intelligence (AI) threatens ASEAN’s service jobs; self-driving vehicles are hitting the road in South-East Asia and the disruptions of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. All these changes stimulate new industries, leapfrog legacy business models and fundamentally change the lives of millions of people.
But a lack of understanding of the technologies, unreliable existing systems, and the fear of the negative effects of these technologies are stifling their adoption.
As an industry player, Hitachi Sunway took up a pivotal role in bridging the divide between academia, industry and government helping to prepare a quality workforce to meet the job requirements of the future. Some of our initiatives include:-
- Signing Memorandum-of-Understanding (MoU) with German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) and Coretech System in deepening its collaboration with Moldex 3D solution as one of the training media in molding industry for GMI students & industrial trainings. And, we launched the Digital Manufacturing Center at GMI - the first of its kind in Malaysia to be equipped with the latest Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) digital solutions for the manufacturing industry.
- An industry partner of Sunway iLabs for its iLabs MakerSpace project, a unique, not-for-profit collaborative space and Make It Challenge 2018 competition for Sunway students to build smart and sustainable city solutions for Sunway City.
- Signing of MoU with Singapore Polytechnic to launch the Advanced Manufacturing Partners Network Programme to drive Singapore Advanced Manufacturing (AM) initiatives.
- Initiate and involved in the set up of Sunway University’s first SOC (Security Operations Center) project.

In 2019, we see that the IoT trend will continue strongly influencing the IT demands of conglomerates. Hitachi Sunway will strengthen our ecosystem of cohesive ‘partnerships’ to transform the company from a ‘Service Integrator’ to become an ‘IoT solutions aggregator’. A rich ecosystem of partners is critical for an IoT platform to meet business requirements and to avoid vendor lock-in. We will bring together the best technologies available in the market, and customized hybrid solutions and systems for our customers that operate in a diversity of vertical industries. In addition, we will also leverage on Hitachi’s long and extensive experience to deliver IoT solutions to our customers.
Last but not least, I would like to introduce our new Chairman, Mr Naofumi Ito (with immediate effect). We are looking forward to his leadership and guidance. I would also like to express our gratitude to Mr Shigemi Nakamura for his stewardship and valuable contribution to Hitachi Sunway in the last 3 years as Chairman.
